Summer Wrapping Up and Fall is Ready to begin!
Thursday, September 16, 2010
Hello Folks!
With summer wrapping up, it is time to update about what has been going on around here with the children and the staff and the wonderful things we have been doing. It has been a wonderfully eventful and busy summer, with field trips, gardening, walks in the neighborhood and plenty of entertainment to keep everyone happy and fulfilled.
For starters, the children have been enjoying various field trips. At the beginning of July, Frog's Hollow Farm came for a visit, along with their cute and friendly bunnies, ducks, mice etc. The children had such a blast petting, brushing and feeding the animals in the yard. Along with the Farm visit, the children went to a play at The Fringe Festival, which was filled with magic and interactive jokes. Speaking of plays and shows, the children entered a real fairy tale at the Fantasy Theater where Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs truly gave the children a trip into their imagination. The show was interactive and allowed the children to be dwarfs on stage. What a great opportunity for our blooming actors!
The children also enjoyed a regular schedule of movies at the library, which continues through the fall. Other field trips included a slew of scientific fun at the Science Gallery, The Planetarium and Imax Theatre to see a movie about Whales and Dolphins in 3D. We also had a visit from Kumari's daughters who danced for Folklorama to show us a dance from their country. The children enjoyed watching and some of them even got up and danced right along with the girls, garbed in their beautiful outfits.
As we wrapped up the month of August the children who were entering the school system, as well as the ones who have already had a year of school under their belts were excited to talk about the return to school and the many new friends and experiences they will be encountering throughout the year. We even had the housekeeping area turned into a classroom for a while, filled with books, chairs and a blackboard and chalk. As exciting as a new school year for many of them is, some of our older children entering grade one graduated the daycare.
On September 2nd, to celebrate this event we had a pizza party before saying our sad goodbyes. As those children departed though we have welcomed a few new comers to the daycare, a whole new generation of youngsters to enjoy what we have to give them and what they can teach us throughout the year.
We are already in the middle of September and the activities with the children show no sign of stopping. Now is the time for the children to help the staff pick tomatoes, potatoes and green beans from the gardens they have helped take care of during the summer months. They are fully taking advantage of the fresh veggies for snacks.
Coming up in the next few months, we have the regular visits to the library, as well as Inch the Clown and Guitar Gary will continue their fun entertainment for the children. Michelle, our well loved music teacher has come back after a long rest during the summer and is now doing music on Mondays. On October 4th begins National Family Week, staff are getting ready to prepare fun filled activities for the week. Our regular photographer will be coming next week to have portraits and group photos done, and Halloween is coming up fast, which means PARTY with costumes and treats! The bake sale and the Christmas Party are also in the midst of being planned, we will have dates for those at a later time.Stay tuned for the many exciting news and activites as staff and children continue their daily adventure at Fort Rouge Coop Day Nursery!
