Good Day Folks!
The holidays have come and gone but the activities and field trips never ceased to occur. The cold weather has arrived, which means that there is less outdoor time but the children and staff are still very busy with songs and crafts, we still have access to the gym from time to time where the children can run and stretch their muscles in the colder days.
In an effort to keep up with the cultural diversity in the daycare, our very own Mandeep brought us a little bit of history about the region of Punjab in India where she comes from, which was displayed in our daycare above the lockers. She also brought various girl dresses representing the fashion from her area for the kids to play with in the housekeeping.
The dresses were very well received, and are still enjoyed now months later. In December, we had a multicultural display, and Eufemia brought in a beautiful light up star from her own country traditions, the Philippines. Every month has a different theme so please come check it out whenever you get a chance. Have questions about it? Just ask any of the staff!
We had some great field trips in the month of December, we kept up with the library trips, which are always such a treat for the children, because not only do they get to take a city bus but they also get to watch movies like in a movie theatre, without the popcorn of course :P
In early December a group of children were privileged to visit Jennifer Howard's office at the Legislative Building, to help decorate her Christmas Tree, with decorations that the children made in the week before in preparation.
The children were treated to a yummy snack of cheese and crackers and apple juice around a large oval table, on seats that swiveled, which made them giggle.
Another great field trip that happened was a visit to The Manitoba Hydro Building, to see all the lit up Christmas Trees and the Old Santa Village that used to be displayed in Old Eatons'. The children had a great time and talked about it for weeks afterward.
One of our Jewish Parents came into the daycare at Hanukkah to talk to the children about the Minora and the Dreidle, and some history behind the game. It was also part of our cultural diversity we strongly encourage every day.
We had our annual bake sale, which went extremely well, all the plates were sold in one day! Thank you so much for the support! The children were such great little sales people, yelling out how much the plates were and what was in them as the parents walked in the daycare to pick up their children.
On the 17th of December, we had our annual Holidays Celebration, complete with Santa and presents, and followed by wonderful tables full of yummy foods. Crackers, vegetable, chips and dip and sweets, enough variety to please even the pickiest eaters! We also graciously welcomed out old friend Guitar Garry who gave us a high energy performance of Seasonal Songs, and got the children and staff moving with a dance party. Inch also came during that week and performed her Christmas Magic.
A new year has started, hopefully it has been long enough that we are all now used to writing 2011, instead of 2010 :) We hope this year proves to be as energetic and creative as the last, and the library trips ,regular appearances by Guitar Gary, Inch The Clown and Michelle, who does our weekly music program, have resumed and are still received extremely well.
We've also determined a time for this blog to be updated regularly so we do not go months without news at all, so keep checking back so you do not miss the latest entries. Same goes for the slide show, and the online calendar.
Until next time!
