Summer has arrived!

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Well if we ever had any doubts earlier in June that summer was not coming, by now all of those doubts have been put to rest. Summer has definitely kicked in with a bang with high temperatures and lots of sun! With that being said, we have to always remember to be sun smart and wear hats, sunscreen and sunglasses and seek shade whenever possible, as to avoid the dangers of heat stroke and exhaustion. Also, we cannot stress this enough, drink plenty of water!

Now that we've sent that reminder out there to you, the readers, let's talk about all the great stuff the kids and staff have been doing to take advantage of this great weather. First and foremost, we had another fantastic Family BBQ here at the daycare on June 23rd.
Lori was our Chef of Honor at the grill, cooking up yummy hot dogs for everyone. We had an excellent turn out, and parents as well as children looked like they had a blast chatting and playing. There were stations set up by the staff, such as bubbles, face painting, tattoos, water play, bean bag toss and more...Guitar Gary came in and offered all of us some great and interactive entertainment which enthralled both kids and adults...we love Guitar Gary and were happy to have him part of our BBQ. Jennifer Howard came for a visit, which is always a pleasure.
All in all, it was a huge success!

Summer at the daycare means FIELD TRIPS! We would like to remind all the parents that should your child be attending one of our many great field trips that they remember to send a lunch which does not need reheating, as well as in a bag to facilitate transport.

Summer means vacation time for a lot of children and staff, but that doesn't mean the field trips are lacking. Last week a group of children got to enjoy the splash park at Fort Rouge Park, and this week the children were treated to The New and Improved Childrens Museum, where they played in a station of Lasagna and Spaghetti, as well as a new funky slide, and many more fun stations. As of today, July 14th, the children are going to a Fringe Show, a magic show put on by a wonderful man and his wife and their son. This will be the third year we attend this show and the children always come back with stories and amazement. Next week, the children will be going to the Fire Station in Osborne Village, to visit with the firefighters and watch a movie about Fire Safety. There are many more Field Trips being planned as the summer progresses along, as we assure the children have plenty of activities and fun to spare! Please check the Website Calendar in the next few days for more details.

As much as we love having new and fun field trips planned for the children, there are some constants that remain a pleasure to continue with, such as the regular library trips, and the singing at Thorvaldson. These will continue on during the busy months of summer.

On June 29th, we celebrated International Mud Day. The staff set up two different activities, with, you guessed it, lots and lots of mud. The kids got to walk knee deep in a table filled with mud to then leave their muddy footprints on a long piece of paper. There was also a smaller station set up where children could play
with the mud with their hands. It was messy and it was fun!

On June 30th, we celebrated Canada's Birthday by making flags, wearing red and white and face painting Maple Leafs on our faces!

As summer keeps bringing us good weather and lots of sunshine, let's remember to be safe in the sun and enjoy! Don't forget your bug spray!
